Biography
Colin began playing squash at the tender age of 9 at the Pointe-a-Pierre Club in Trinidad and Tobago. It was clear from a young age that he had immense talent in the sport and was encouraged on by his family and the Pointe-a-Pierre squash community. He won his first Trinidad and Tobago National Under 12 Squash Championship at age 10 in 1993 and would go on to win the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 categories bringing his total tally to 9 national junior titles. Regionally he was a two time Caribbean Junior Finalist.
During his junior years Colin was making major progress in the Mens Open category in local tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals of the Mens National Championships at the age of 14. At age 16 he placed 3rd in the Mens Nationals and was runner up at the age of 18. He finally became the Trinidad and Tobago Mens National Champion at the age of 19 in 2002 and defended it sucessfully in 2005 and 2006. No Nationals were held in 2003 and 2004.
Colin attended the University of Western Ontario in Canada between 2000 and 2004 where he graduated in Finance and Economics. During those years he was a part of varsity squash team which won 4 Ontario University Athletics gold medals and had 3 top 8 NCAA finishes, the best results from any Canadian University.
In 2006, Colin was selected by the Trinidad and Tobago Squash Association and Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Commitee to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia. He had the distinction of becoming the first squash player in history from Trinidad and Tobag to reach the second round where he lost to the World #5 Anthony Ricketts of Australia.
Colin also became the first player from Trinidad and Tobago to reach the Round of 16 at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Cartagena, Colombia in July. He followed this up by placing Runner up in the Southern Caribbean Squash Championships in Barbados.
In January 2007, Colin once again created history when he became the first player from Trinidad and Tobago to play on the Professional Squash Association's Mens World Tour. He was able to increase his world ranking from #350 to #211 during the year. Highlights for 2007 include becoming the first finalist in history from Trinidad and Tobago at the Caribbean Squash Championships in Jamaica and winning the Montreal Open in October.
